New Mexico: Mountain Lion Hunting

Trophy Mountain Lions

Winter mountain lion (cougar) hunts offer a great opportunity in the off season for big game hunting. New Mexico has a great mountain lion season. The big toms are the real trophies. We can hunt state wide and we hunt from the first of October until the end of March. Mountain lion are the most elusive animal you can hunt, requiring topnotch trail hounds to acquire this magnificent trophy. Snow is a bonus, but not a necessity. I love the outdoors and the thrill of the hunt especially when following a pack of well trained hounds. I have been hunting with hounds the majority of my life. Hunting with hounds is my personal favorite hunting sport. I do all the mountain lion hunting myself. On occasion I also hire qualified, licensed guides to assist in the hunt. This allows me to cover more country and increase your chance of success, because 100% success is what it's all about. I use 4 x 4 trucks, snowmobiles and ATV's as needed, as well as radios for communication and GPS tracking equipment. This allows me to make the most of your hunting time.

  • GUIDES

    My guides are licensed and qualified. They are absolutely the best in the business and selected by me. My guides are all local and know the area as well as I do. All hunts are conducted on a 2 on 1 basis or for a fee you can upgrade to 1 on 1 for $300 a day.

  • ACCOMMODATIONS

    ​All of our hunting will be conducted from nicely accommodated camps, which consist of two men 10 x 12 wall tents with beds, mattresses, lanterns, heaters, hot showers and a large cook tent.

  • MEALS

    Our meals are prepared by some of the best camp cooks in the business. Please let us know if you have special dietary requirements or a medical condition we should be aware of.

  • TRANSPORTATION

    Transportation is provided from the Albuquerque Airport to camp the day before your hunt and back to the airport the day after your hunt for a fee of $300 per person. In order to allow enough time for the trip to and from camp, we require that you arrive by noon and depart after 11:00 a.m. Otherwise, you must provide your own transportation. If you choose to drive or rent a car, a map will be provided.

  • INCLUSIONS

    Included in the cost of the hunt is all lodging, meals, guide fees and trophy care. Not included in the cost is license, tag, habitat stamp and gratuities. You may bring a guest at a cost of $100 per day for each guest.

  • BOOKING A HUNT

    A 50% nonrefundable deposit is required to confirm your hunt and dates. Cashier's check or money order are accepted. The balance is due thirty days before your hunt begins.

  • GRATUITIES

    Gratuities are not mandatory, however, it is customary to tip your guide, packer and cook if you feel they did a good job.

Mountain Lion Season

Lion season is from the first of October through the end of March. All lion hunts are seven day hunts, unless on-call hunts have been arranged. License must be purchased 48 hours before your scheduled hunt date. They are over-the-counter licenses. They are guaranteed licenses that I can assist you in purchasing. Rates: 7 days - $5000. 50% nonrefundable deposit required upon booking. Bobcats can be combined with this hunt for a $500 trophy fee.
